Devices and accessibility
Supported browsers and screen sizes, how each site adapts to phones, and support for keyboards, screen readers and reduced motion.
Browsers#
EphemerisX sites work in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on desktop and mobile. The Ephemeris map needs JavaScript; the Alzheimer's record and the FDA drug record can be read without it.
Screen sizes#
| Site | Wide screens | Narrow screens and phones |
|---|---|---|
| The Ephemeris | List, map, legend and full stats strip side by side. Below 1,100 px the stats strip shows only In the graph and Built from. | At 760 px and below, the list starts hidden and opens as a drawer; the legend and stats strip are hidden. Tap to select, drag to pan, pinch to zoom. |
| Alzheimer's record | From 1,100 px, the interactive command center. | Below 1,100 px, tables and cards. At 720 px and below, the decision timeline becomes cards and the header links wrap. Wide tables scroll sideways. |
| FDA drug record | One reading column. | At 600 px and below the breadcrumb is hidden. Tables scroll sideways. |

Keyboard#
- All links, buttons, filter chips and list rows can be reached with Tab and used with Enter or Space.
- On the Ephemeris, Esc clears the map selection. Use the list's Show on map to move the map without a pointer.
- On the Alzheimer's record, timeline rows can be focused and opened with Enter or Space, and marks show their tooltip on focus.
- In this documentation, press / to search.
Screen readers#
The Ephemeris map is a drawing and is labelled as such: “The list beside it holds the same status as text.” Use the list for everything on the map. Before the map loads, and without JavaScript, the page shows a plain directory of links to every drug or company page.
Reduced motion#
If your operating system is set to reduce motion, the Ephemeris:
- starts the build queue replay paused,
- turns off the decorative sparks on lines,
- jumps to new views instead of animating.
Colour#
Statuses are never shown by colour alone. Each has a symbol and a word (● Up to date, ◐ Graph behind, ○ Queued, ◇ Listed only), and position pills carry their name.
